Maths Update II Maths

4th week of Maths coming to an end.
In this, I will relatively only stick down what I remember from Thursday Yesterday and Today Friday.

On Thursday we were given a sheet that had black Pixels on it. With that sheet, we had to find a way to cover all the pixels with as little fewer squares and rectangles as we can to get the lowest number of squares and rectangles that cover the pixels. Some people got 14 or 41 or 98 (They did little squares)

And Today we were given another problem but with circles, for that, we had to make we straight line without taking our pen off on a grid of circles of 3, looked like this but with 2 more rows under it 0 0 0

In my opinion, it was kinda hard as I couldn't find a solution to this problem, but apparently, there are 5 ways to do it... so that's over me, then we were told to get into a group of 3 or 4 and were told to make a list of 2 things, of optimizing things we do every day.
 E.q Food - What to eat, What variety of food to eat.

So I rather enjoyed yesterday and today as they both had a challenging but interesting things to do to pass time in class

Harriet Tubman II Research (Social studies)

In social studies, we've started Human rights and so far we've gotten into the slavery side of human rights. The part were in right now is about the slaves and the spiritual songs that they sang. For this, we had to research a person who started the underground railroad and saved many slaves from their torture. and thus we were given the task to research "Harriet Tubman"

Spirituals Song II Social Studies

I learnt a few things about Spirituals song.
We were given two songs which both have 2 things in common, the mention of Jordan which if no one knows is also a river, which can also be known as River Ohio or River Mississippi and the second thing is that the songs both have the mention of freedom in them or getting to freedom.

These songs were used on the fields as a sort of motive to keep going and to carry on and to tell others that "it's fine, we can escape now the coast is clear"
These songs were like codded words for the slaves on the field because only they would be able to understand the words, they were like words of comfort for the awaiting freedom that laid ahead of them.

"Swing low, Sweet Chariot" something yelled unexpectedly in the fields or sung softly in the dark of night. This phrase signalled that the coast was clear. and that the time to escape had come for them.
(This song also mentions The River Jordan)

Slavery Work Songs II Social Studies

Explain the feeling that you get when you listen to these songs?

These songs make me feel disgusted in humanity, because of what were caple of doing to others with or without their consent. It makes me sad to know that humans do this to other humans because we deny seeing other people that are different from us as an equal person. and that they have to go through such things every day.

What kind of information about Slavery did you learn from these songs?
That it's mostly black people who are put into slavery or child labour, and that it doesn't matter how old they grow because they're still going to live their lives on the fields doing work for others benefit

The message to this song is about the present. It's about how our world is now with all the drama that always goes on. and how we act towards it.

What I've Learnt So Far In Maths

Week 3's coming to an end and were entering Week 4. And since it's kinda still the start of the school year, it means we still haven't learnt that much in some classes, but I know I should use this time of the short amount of work we get wisely. Because I know later on the work will get bigger and bigger and BIGGER... One of the classes we've just started is Math.

So far we haven't done much but it's still been enjoyable with the small activities that still give off the Math vibe.

Our first-class of Math was looking at Building Shapes.
We were given a string and told to get into a group of 4-5, with this string we used it to make a 3D shape. It was kinda hard because you had to grab a specific amount of string for it to work, and sometimes people just couldn't keep their fingers attached to the string and decided it would be a great idea to look the string go.

The next thing we were given was a sheet full of small black dots.
With that sheet, we had to make squares out of those dots and see how much squares we could make out of the dots on the page.
The sheets we were given for this were sheets that had 4x4 Dots and 5x5 Dots.
and the thing that I found funny was that you could make a square-Diamond and it would still be a square cause it's just a square that's rotated.

Then we were given a slideshow with this on it.
with this, we had to figure out what figure 10 would look like and then we had to figure out what figure 55th would look like and how many blocks it would have. Figure 55 was hard... Really hard. But I overall enjoyed playing with the blocks to do this task.

It was fun...
The ironic thing was that figure 10 had 55 blocks... In total. and like figure 55 had like 1,540 blocks.
so I overall enjoyed sitting down at a table with a phone and using the phone's calculator to get my result for figure 55... It was hard It lasted till the end of the period but I didn't care.

Atlantic Slave Trade (Routes)

In Social studies were Learning about Human rights. This lead to learning about Columbus and what he'd down. The picture above is the routes he took for gold and for the slave trade that he started.

What is Critical Literacy - Critical Literacy is when you apply Critical thinking to a literacy topic
- Critical Literacy is when you question how and why a text was made
- Critical thinking is a skill that we will be practising throughout the year

Define these words
Bias - Bias is where you favour something over something
Source - A place where we get information from
Credible - You can be believed/Trusted on what you give
Authority - Authority to have power over something
Reliable - You can be trusted to do something
Perspective - Your view on someone or something (Your point of view)
Agenda - A agenda is something you are planning to give a purpose, so planning something and giving it a purpose
Manipulate - to control something or someone to your liking

Extension Task  - Have a go at putting each of these words into a sentence to show you understand how to use them.

Text - This text has very little information, so I'll need to find something else for my research.
Construction - The construction of this text was mostly just about facts that I already knew.
Representation - The text has a very strong grip on the representation of the topic
stereotype - the stereotype that blondes are more intelligent than brunettes is really growing old.
Bias - This persons opinion is very biased towards this subject.
Inclusion - Inclusion... It means including someone right?
Exclusion - In this movie, all the main characters friends excluded the main character from their activities.
Masculine - The main character acts very Masculine
Feminine - My best friend seems to have a very feminine figure.

How are the elders constructed in this text?In the video, there is a particular stereotype at the start which shows that Elders mostly just sit and around wait for people to come to them. the rest of the song breaks that stereotype showing the elders as energetic people who can look after themselves and don't need others looking after them.

Females are constructed as women who are meant to stay inside and be elegantly dressed while doing the housework, while the men do the outside housework

What kind of social reality does this text portray?That life only mattered on getting the job done, and looking handsome or pretty and doing their job right, which also gives a stereotype of men being outside in the garden getting dirty and women staying inside staying clean from the dirt and doing the house chores.

The text is biased towards the young Pi/Maori's and Caucasian males and the stereotype of how they like to go out and get drunk with their friends. (So no it's not as it's using just males and Pi/Maori males)

Not to do drunk driving when you know you're behind the wheel of the car and to also shock the viewer.

Synopsis
The video starts off with 4 mates going to a bar and getting drunk, 1 of the 4 was meant to stay sober as he was the one driving, but snuck off and got drunk knowing well enough he was behind the wheel and ended up crashing the car and killing one of his friends.

SynopsisThe video starts off with a guy in the corner with a beer thinking in his head about the worse case scenarios of what could happen if his friend drove while drunk and decided to tell his friend not to drive tonight as he was too wasted to drive.

Human Rights Poster

New year new Decade and a new start to Social studies. This year in social studies for a starting were learning about humans rights and what the rights are. On the 2nd week, we were asked to make a poster about human rights and some of its rights.

SDL Matrix

New week, new year and new decade meaning another year level at school, in English were given the task to make our SDL. To do this, we need to highlight what we can do green and what we need to work on yellow.

What will I do to achieve this?
To Achieve this goal I will...

- Go to bed at a good time so I'm not tired and I don't distract myself with my tiredness
- Do the work that's due 2 days before the due date, at morning tea, lunch or at home
And
- Ditch the things I do at home for work that likely due the next day because after I finish that task I can then do the things I want to do... So basically managing my time.
