Health - Creating a hero

 Term 2 week 2 of health was diving into the Ethical approach, in doing so we were told to create a hero that represents a ethical approach for me and my friend's hero we did the ethical approach of Virtue.


The definition of an ethical approach is as follows: An Ethical Principle is a RULE or FOUNDATION that guides a person or group's thinking about ethical matters. Ethical principles get to the heart of people's attitudes, values and beliefs and therefore are a useful framework (That reflects the underlying concepts of HEE).

Our ethical approach of virtue is an ethical approach that focuses on attitudes or character traits that enable us to be and to act in ways that develop our human potential, it causes us to ask whether our actions are reflective of the kind of person we want to be.

Our hero demonstrates our ethical approach of virtue via the scales that help him to evaluate whats the best way to go about helping the woman who is being robbed

Pathos, Logos, Ethos II English

Pathos is a form of persuasive writing that is used to evoke the feelings of the audience. In other words Pathos is used throughout stories to make the audience feel something and give the text more meaning to the viewer, this can either be sad or happy. An example of Pathos - "She has THE POWER to change the world. You have THE POWER to help her do it." - Add

Logos is used to persuade someone by using facts. In other words Logos is where you give an example of something and you reason with the audience as to why that statement is true or false with evidence to back it up. An example of this "Harry Potter - "You've made a mistake I can't be a wizard. I mean I'm just Harry, just Harry." "Hagrid - " Well, just Harry, did you ever make anything happen? Anything you couldn't explain, when you were angry or scared?" - Harry potter

Ethos is used in a text to convince the audience. Another way to put it is that Ethos is used to convince people by having someone of authority or a text tell you about something that shows truth and has credibility to what it's telling you. The person of authority could be a CEO or a Celebrity. An example of this " I learned the real lessons about how America works from experience. When I was 37, I helped start a small company. My Partners and I had been working for a company that was in the business of helping other businesses. So some of us had this idea that if we really believed our advice was helping companies, we should invest in companies. We should bet on ourselves and on our advice. So we started a new business called Bain Capital... That business we started with 10 people had now grown into a great American success story. Some of the companies we helped start are names you know. An office supply company called Staples - where I'm pleased to see the Obama campaign has been shopping; The Sports Authority, which became a favorite of my sons. We started an early childhood learning center called Bright Horizons that Frist Lady Michelle Obama rightly praised" - Mitt Romney''s Acceptance speech at the 2012 Republican National Convention.

What are we doing? - Learning how to write good Persuasive Formal Writing.

Why are we doing it? - We are learning how to write like this so we can one day right persuasive things that could change someone's mind about something.

Dilution Painting II Art

What does my painting depict? The subject matter of my painting is a painting of Iron Man	How did I create the different tones? I used diluted white acrylic paint to make a  thin wash.  I brushed this on the painting paper with the black gesso. This created a grey tone. To make lighter, grey tones, I added second and third layers of wash. I also did a bit of outlining in normal black and white paint to make it neater.	How did you compose your subject matter?  Iron Man is centred in the picture space	Is your subject matter symbolic or does it express an idea? My subject matter isn't symbolic. But it represents the marvel series.
	How did you paint the highlights?	Is the negative space important in your painting?
	With white washed paint and plain white paint. Washed paint to smooth it out and normal white paint to add more light to it.	Yes so it can make the character stand out more.

In Social studies after we finished the Deity work, we moved onto the treaty if Waitangi were told to make a timeline of 5 things that happened before the treaty of Waitangi was signed.

Social Studies II Forensic Science

In Social studies, we've been focusing on Careers.
For this, we had to do a quiz on Career NZ but the Quiz didn't work so we just used their site to find some jobs, for me I did Forensic Science, I got myself into Forensic science at year 8 when our science teacher introduced it to us, the thing I like about Forensic science is the problem solving and the just the science part in general, I really love Science and Problem solving because it gets me thinking.

Soo after we picked a job we had to make a poster for the selected job and answer a few questions and then make it into a poster (Question are on the poster)

How is it that Connor was not unwound P318
Connor didn't get unwound because when the Chop Shop had exploded they had found an ID with the picture charred off. It had belonged to a nineteen-year-old guard by the name of Elvis Mullard. But with all the confusion after the blast, no one could tell who was who, and the soon agreed that letting the ID go to waste would be a shame.

Whose arm does he now have? P319
Connor has Rolands Arm because of the Tiger Shark that lays on the arm.

On P321 Risa tell Connor how she won't be unwound. Do you think her decision to not accept the spine of an Unwind was purely ethical or was she also playing the system in order to stay alive?
She was playing the system in order for survival because if she had taken the spine of the unwind and had healed later on then she would be immediately unwound. The reason why she denied the spine, to begin with, was that in the System you couldn't unwind a disabled Unwind. So Risa used that to the best of her advantage to get past the system so she could survive and live out her life. (Then again I wouldn't blame her for playing the system)

Since the explosions at Happy Jack, what have people been doing? What hs Cy-Fi's role been in this P325
Cy-Fi had made a stand against unwinding thanks to the influence that Lev had on Cy-Fi with the time they were together. The stand that Cy-Fi did also got a lot of people talking about it which resulted in people joining him on stopping unwinding.

P331-332 explain what has happened to Harlan Dunfee. What do you think about the Admiral and his wife's plan? Was it what you expected?
Harlan Dunfee had been unwound as discovered in the previous chapters, and because he was unwound, it meant that his parts had gone to other children. On P330 it's announced that it is Harlan Dunfee's 26th birthday and that Harlan's Parents the Admiral and his wife had gathered all the children that held a part of their son together for his Party. They both had intended to put their son back together, with no surgeries needed but just the children that held the parts.

I found this part of the story very heartwarming, knowing that even though they didn't have their son back as a full whole they still had all the parts of him together in one space. And the fact that no surgeries were needed for the children that had the parts to be taken away just made it all the better.

Word Search (Social studies)

This is the second task of the post under this, For this task, I did their daily lives but in as a word search, the words above are what you need to find. Good luck

Maori's Daily life (Social studies)

In Social studies were doing a topic on the Polynesian or Maori from when they found New Zealand and what they would do each day.

Can experiment (Science)

In Science today we did a small experiment... PUTTING A CAN OVER HOT FRIE THEN PUTTING IT IN WATER. Well doesn't seem like much but it was fun

Aim: To observe contraction in gases

Method: (1) Set up the bunsen burner
(2) Pour about 50-20 ML of water into your can. It should be no  more than 1/4 full
(3) heat the can of water above the flame of the bunsen until steam is seen escaping from the top, then carefully grip the can with the scissor tongs while making sure you have a firm grip on the can, then left it off the gauze mat
(4) Quickly but carefully, invert the can as you plunge it into a container of water

Hypothesis: Maybe it would explode like. explode explode.

(It didn't fully Explore... it just made it's self smaller as in when you crush a can with your hands)

Equipment: Can (With water) Ice cream container (With water) Bunsen burner. Scissor Tongs

We had proceeded to put our equipment up, we filled the container up with water to the line, and stuck a bit of water in the can, before lighting the bunsen burner with a lighter and turning it to the blue flame and then holding the can over the fire with the scissor tongs.

We waited for a bolling sound before lifting the can off of the fire, and then quickly into the container of water, to then instantly hear a crunching sound from the can.

Cat A.R.M.Y

Term 2 weeks 2 only 8 more weeks of school left!!!
In writing, we were told to do a ToonDoo on what we think our teacher is doing since she is not at school, we were told to do something creative on what she was doing instead of the boring truth.

So I decided why not send her to Egypt and give her a cat A.R.M.Y

I walked off the plane as I walked on the sandy grounds of Egypt, I heard meowing as I turned my head to see 4 cats, 2 cats came to my side and never left and the other 2 were watching over me, I felt so protected, we kept walking for a while to hear a bark"

"We walked towards the noise to see a dog, "A DOG" I screamed "ATTACK MY CATS" I screamed as I pointed at the dog as the cats rushed to my rescues and ate the dog alive.
