Calculating squares on a grid.

In Math we were shown by our Math teacher a 10 by 10 grid. The grid wasn't really 10 by 10. What I mean by that is that each corner side you're counting twice when really it's only really meant to be counted once.
So the top is 10 and bottom is 10 and the sides are 8 as if the sides were 10, it would mean you were counting the sides twice.

So this is a little blog post about how to calculate the squares on a grid (10 by 10)
In First base we have to find out how much numbers are on the outline of the border of the grid, For a 10 by 10, it's 36.
So we have that down all we need to do is find an easy calculation for it.

A simple way to do it is
10 + 8 + 10 + 8 = 36
So 10 from the top and bottom and the two 8 at the sides, add them together to get 36.

If we covert the numbers algebra wise then the 10 would be the single n and the 8 would be the (n-2)
which Gives us our calculation like above but in letters and numbers.
n + (n - 2) + n + (n - 2) = 36

(Bonus)
That is simple algebra when it comes to time tables we use algebra like this
Normal - 4 x 8 + 4 = 36
Algebra - 4 (n - 2) + 4 = 36
Just doing the same before with the eight converting it into an (n - 2) and leaving the 4 as a 4.

(Can you think of any other ways of doing a grid finding the answer and converting it into algebra?)

Film study Essay practice (English)

In the film, Coraline Low angle shots are used effectively to establish how vulnerable a character looks from down below.
This is demonstrated in the scene where after Coraline had finished watching a show outside waiting was the other mother and other father.
A low angle shot from the POV of Coraline looking upwards towards the other mother and father as they look down on her making Coraline seem small and vulnerable.
This makes us understand that Coraline is powerless against the other mother and father and is an easy prey form the other mother's view.
The purpose of this is to show that a character is powerless towards the person above them and that they have 50/50 chance of either dying or living depending on the person personality (Person above them).

Essay for Film study Practice

-Night
-Other World
-Can't talk
-Mother and Coraline going into the house, just seen mouse circus
-Pov-Other mother, wants him to smile
-Wybie is unhappy

-Warm Light
-High angle, makes the subject vulnerable (Wybie) to the POV dominant (Other mother)
-Dark colours but bright because Coraline Coraline doesn't know this yet.

-Facial expression - Sad, Because his mouth is gone down and his eyebrows are arched in fear

--------

In the film, Coraline High angle shots are used effectively to establish a character's position of power.
This is demonstrated in the scene where Coraline and Wybie return from visiting their neighbours.
A high angle shot from the pov of the other mother looking down the stairs towards Wybie makes him look vulnerable.
This makes us understand that the other mother has all the power and might not be as kind as Coraline thinks at this point.
The purpose of this is to show a character who unhappy in the 'other' world and foreshadow the horrific turn of events later in the story.
Combined with the use of facial expression, Wybies Mouth is frowning and his eyebrows are arched in fear, the idea of being vulnerable is enchanted. this aspect can be compared to Coraline's battle with the other mother at the end of the film where we see the true evil nature of the beldam.

Government (Study)

1 - Prime minister - The prime minister is usually a leader of a party, with the most seats in a parliament, so he/she has to be supported with a majority of MP's
The prime minister is also the one who runs the government.

Cabinet minister - Is basically a group of people, like the minister of education and ETC who makes choices for the government.

Head of state - The head of state is the person (Queen Elizabeth II) Who represents their country as the country's leader.

Governor General - The Governor-general is someone who represents the queen and does stuff for her on her behalf

2 - What I found interesting about this topic is what the Governments do and what their roles as before I didn't know much as learning about governments really wasn't in my interest at the time

3 -  Something I want to know more about is... Not much really only that what would Germany be like now in this time period of Hitler still continued on being the government.

Creating illusion Film study (English)

-Hands change
-Edges shaper
-Get Taller
-Changes every time we see her - Gradually
-Clothing change

Mother 1 - Mum Type, Comfortable, Grey/Black hint of red, Rounder curves, Warm

Mother 2 - Darker clothes, Red/purple and black, Bit taller, Heads less round than before, Subtle change, Sharp-edged apron and head

Mother 3 -  head, More skin showed, Shorter sleeves, Wears dresses, Red/Black, Dress near bottom looks like a beetle

Mother 4 - Hair pointy All black and sharped, angular Limbs, Long neck, Doesn't look like the real mother,

Mother 5 - No nose, No skin, Many more legs like a spider. Clothes are barely there and all ripped, She's more thin and pointed. Needle fingers.

----------

The director effectively uses costume to create the other mother at the start to look like any other normal mother, She is wearing a white long sleeved turtle neck with black leggings and red shoes. This gradually changes over the course of the film, Her head becomes less round and more pointy her clothes become darker and exposes more skin. By the end of the film, her costume is more spider-like, and her body is a metal skeleton with lots of sharp angles and her clothes are black rags.
The director has done this to show us that the other mother is evil and that her looks were deceiving.

Colour and lighting are important in creating the other mother. When we first see her its a warm lighting with shades of yellow and orange, this makes the viewer feel happy and safe. By the end of the film scenes with the other mother are dimly lit with a cold light and green and black colour palette, this is because she has turned into her real self a demon-like spider who is evil and tries to steal children's souls through their eyes.

Test (Japanese)

In Japanese, we were given a task to do an introduction but in Japanese (it took me 2 days knowing it should have been 1) this was sort of like a test I guess but it was fun to do, I enjoyed doing this test as it was a lot of fun to do.

Caroline Colour use (Film study)

Real World

Grey/Blue
Geen
White
Black/Dark
Navy

Cold/Cool
Threatening
Depressing
Dull/Dark

Other World

Reds/Orange

Warm
Bright

-----------

Grey/Blue
-Creates a mood of sadness
- Not exciting Colours
- Combined with a dull cool light it makes the scene sad and depressing

If the colour palette was reversed then the real world would feel warm and the other world would feel cold

The director uses this colour palette to reflect Coraline's feelings towards a place. When the blue/grey palette is used she feels lonely and unhappy in the place. if it is orange and red she is happy there

-----------

(1) Colours are gloomy, dark and washed out. The predominant colour used in this palette is grey because it creates an atmosphere of sadness and boredom. The director has done this to help the viewer empathise with Coraline in her real world where she feels ignored.

(2) Colours in the other world palette are bright, radiant and vivid. The predominant colours used are shades of orange and red which create a mood of excitement. this is done to re-enforce the idea that Coraline is wanted in the other world. It is a wondrous place for her to be. However, we know this is just a trap to lure Coraline in.

(3) Colours in the scenes with the evil other mother are vivid and dominant. The predominant colours are shades of glowing greens which help make the mood scary and threatening. The director has used this colour to make the other world seem unwelcoming and to make the other mother more threatening and maybe to make her seem unstable.

How is lighting used to enhance a movie

Lighting is used in this shot to make the house feel cold, old and run down. this is done by using a 'cool white' light coming into the room from a cloudy window.
The director has used this lighting to enhance the idea that Coraline's life at home is dull and boring, and she is unhappy there. it also provides contrast to the other world, which is bright and warmly lit

---------

The lighting is used in this shot to, make the house feel warm and more bright and happy unlike the real world from where that is dull and cold, the other house gives off a welcoming vibe, unlike the real house which just feels gloomy and boring.
The lighting from the other house that gives off that nice warm welcoming vibe which comes from a light bulb. Unlike the real world from where the lighting comes from the outside from the cloudy weather.
I think the director did what they did with the lighting so it shows Coraline is happy there in the other world then she is at her real home.

The lighting is used in this shot to make the tunnel feel mysterious and longing to go to the other side and see what's awaiting her on the other side.
The lighting of the tunnel is very bright and vibrant at the top and dark and gloomy at the bottom.
I think the director gave that lighting so it makes the viewer feel more excited to see what happens later on in the movie.

Nazi Germany (Social studies)

In Social studies, we were given an assignment on the topic we were on which was government.
We picked a government from back then, I picked Hitler or the Nazi, and we had to find information on that person and what their history was and what they did to gain control and how they gained peoples trust ETC
