Culture (Social Studies)

Math (SUNDIALS)

In Math for the last past week we had been making Sundials at the workshop, In reality, I didn't expect to do something which involves building something in Maths, but I'm glad we did do it.
For making our Sundials we had a choice to where we worked alone or with someone.
I worked with someone in my class a good friend of mine Summer. After days of making our sundial here was our final product.
How we made it
first, we had to draw out the shape on paper on what we wanted out Sundial to look like, then we got a piece of wood from the back drew on the shape and got it cut out. then we sanded it, made a hole in the middle and glued a rode in since the hole was a bit too big.
Then we added the lines or angles and then the numbers, and to finish it off we added a drawing (By Summer) of a Chinese dragon.

During Math, we had to make a slideshow about Sundials, Heres mine not much but there will be a couple of stuff also in this blog post under this which contains facts about Sundials.
------------------------------------
Facts about Sundials x3
Here are the Altitude Dial (On the left) And the Azimuth Sundial (On the right)

------------------------------------
I did not know
I didn't know what the middle part of a Sundial was called...
at first, I thought it was just a pole or a stick.
I found out that
What the middle part of the Sundial was called, the Gnomom
or Celestial pole (Thanks to my awesome Math teacher)
I have learnt
An easy way to make a sundial
What I need to learn
I think I need to learn how to read a clock better, I'm on
my way to it, so once I do know how hopefully
I'll be able to read the Sundial with no problem That would be a good achievement.
------------------------------------
Reference to our Sundial Link with Sundial (Scam IDK)
Here is what I and Summer used to reference our sundial, the part we used was the number part, what I mean is we did the 6 to 12 on the left and then the 6 to 12 on the right.
------------------------------------
I find this video interesting because the man talks about how Sundials were used in Egypt within more than 3500 years ago and that the dial was designed by a man named Otto Klotz who was an Astronomer.

Jabberwocky (Drama)

Jabberwocky
By Lewis Carroll
Poem (Where I found the poem)

’Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe:
All mimsy were the borogoves,
      And the mome raths outgrabe.

“Beware the Jabberwock, my son!
The jaws that bite, the claws that catch!
Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun
      The frumious Bandersnatch!”

He took his vorpal sword in hand;
Long time the manxome foe he sought—
So rested he by the Tumtum tree
      And stood awhile in thought.

And, as in uffish thought he stood,
The Jabberwock, with eyes of flame,
Came whiffling through the tulgey wood,
      And burbled as it came!

One, two! One, two! And through and through
      The vorpal blade went snicker-snack!
He left it dead, and with its head
      He went galumphing back.

“And hast thou slain the Jabberwock?
Come to my arms, my beamish boy!
O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!”
      He chortled in his joy.

’Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe:
All mimsy were the borogoves,
      And the mome raths outgrabe.
(Picture of the Jabberwocky)

(My small translate)

It was shiny, and the slimy toes
Did Slither and slide in the waves
All Clumsy and flimsy were the claws
And the beast shall grab you.

(My own beast)
It was a furry beast with 4 legs, black as the night
But light like a feather, it had 4 big like wings of a dragon.
And a tail of a lizard and ears of a cat.
And 2 horns that sat near his ears
With eyes like the midnight moon that could paralyse you with cuteness, but don't be fooled of its cuteness
or you will never see the light again
(Dragon hybrid lizard cat)

English Novel study

In English we had started novel study work, our teacher gave us a task which involved this cover, and we had to answer the questions that were given to us for the book. (But we have no idea what its about sooo... we had to use our imaginations)

What do you think the story will be about.
I think the story is about a young boy who was imprisoned in a prison or a cell in the middle of nowhere

-How do you think this story will be written
I think the story will be written in the pov of the person on the cover

-Why do you think the story is entitled as it is?
Maybe cause his parents didn't want him and willing gave him up

-Where do you think the story will take place?
An abandoned island with a single prison

-What time period do you think the story is set in
In 2050

Science (What is a scientist?)

What do you think a scientist does?
I think a scientist could be a range of stuff like a chemist, or someone
working in the doctor department.

They make new chemicals that could possibly help people in the future.
(Medience or cures)

What a Scientist does (Reseach)
Entomologist - Is a Scientist who studies Insects that would probably find around each day or some that are hard to find for a challenge

Marine Biologist - Those who Study what's deep down in the waters or as we call it sea life

Geologist - Someone who studies the history and the origin and the structure of the earth

Zoologist - A Person who in general just studies animals you would probably see at a zoo.

Traffic jam??? OR IS IT???

In English, we were given a picture of a bunch of cars on a Bridge with people standing outside them, Here is the picture.

We were then told to find out if this is real or fake DUN DUN DUN....
Well here is my answer
This is fake apparently its Chinese people and they were out of their cars because of a traffic jam from a broken car on the bridge.

----------

The photo was also taken in 2010, and this post was posted on a site in 2017 and updated in 2018.
Also, the photo is from China, not Germany.
There is no Authority because we have no idea who made this or where the photo came from before posted on the site.

The Butterfly's

In English, we were given a small story to which we read and then were given questions which were for the story we just read that we had to answer.

What kind of Language is used in the text?
In the story, it was clear that the grandmother and grandfather were not very educated in their words or grammar like the grandmother says do what she say when it should be, do what she says or do what the teacher has said.

What is this text about and how do you know?
This text is based on Butterflies, due to the title being butterflies and story being about butterflies.

What does the Author want us to know
The author wants us to know why we should kill them and should not kill them.

How are the characters constructed in this text
Grandfather, Grandmother, Neighbor, Teacher and Granddaughter

What kind of realities does the text portray (My pov what I thought of the story)
I thought this story was okay and that we should not kill butterflies for they are harmful creatures to humans but we should at the same time since they could eat peoples cabbage (Pretty hard to kill one... they're small)

T-shirt bags

In-Text style (Soft material) we are making bags for our work out of shirts, we watched videos of how to make a bag out of t-shirts and then we planned and next week which is today, we began our trial top of what our bag will look like, This is my Trial top the one I did before my final product, and to be honest, didn't really like the outcome of my Trial.

The neck part is too big and the parts at the bottom are too thick and not thin enough, but I hope for my final bag It will look better.

For my Final, I hope that it will turn out better with a shorter neck, and the bottom parts to tie the top up at the bottom I hope that to be thinner so it will be easier to tie up.

Waitangi

In Social studies, we have been doing something that involves Waitangi Day.
And the history of it.

Learning Objective: Understand what the treaty of Waitangi is and why it's important.

What I already knew
I knew some stuff about Waitangi Day since I learnt some from Primary school but I've forgotten what.

What I found interesting
I also found it interesting that it's on February why? Because its the same month as my Birthday.
(WHOOOOOO Lucky me???)

What I would like to know
I'd like to know what would have happened if the treaty was not signed

A Slideshow of Waitangi that I made in Social Studies.

Drama (week 3)

So week 3, Drama, In drama we started off with a game where we would be on stage and in a frozen state and one person would try to make us move or laugh to get us out.
Then after 2 or 3 games, we had a task, do write a blog post of what we wanted to do and what we wanted to improve.
So here are my ideas.

1) A play from year 5 - 9
2) A horror play.
3) A make your own play
4) Do a musical play.
5) And to improve my acting skills

A short post of what I hope to happen in drama

Factual or Satirical?

In English were given a task where there are new sites, we have to find out which one is real news and which is fake news. (Disclaimer this is my opinion some of them may be stuck as fake when they might really be real)

The website is laid out with others news on the side
They are using either photo's off the internet or photoshopped ones
Headlines - FLY OFF MY PRETTIES,' Says Jeff Bezos releasing swarms of Amazon drones to hunt down nude photos.
I think this site is satirical (Fake)

Looks like a classic site with lots of words and a little fewer pictures and normally just a black and white background.
Their using photos that of looks like a meeting.
Headlines -  Dangerous Territory For democrats as Republicans seize the Venezuela moment in Miami
I think this is Factual (real)

A nice laid out site with a person at the top under the words The Civilian.
They're using a photo from Melbourne Cup Carnival about a horse running around in a circle.
Headlines - Embarrassing: Winning Melbourne cup horse just ran around in a big circle like some kind of idiot.
In reality, I think that this site is fake due to how they put the wording (Satirical)

A site with adds on the side and a video that pops up on your right bottom side.
They're using a photo of Kate Middleton and the occasion of shoes (From adds) and ETC.
Headline- Kate outshines A-list stars in Grecian
I think this is True (Factual)

A site with the words in a typewriter font saying THE DAILY MASH, With some adds.
A photo of the movie Paddington
Headline - 4 classic kids’ films that could offend idiots
I think this is fake (Satirical)

A site with a nice layout with buttons to press on the left side to go to a different page
Pictures on the site are some doing with the news and some pictures of houses?
Headline - High profile inmate released: Arthur Taylor talks life, love and Lime scooters
I think this is Satirical

The Shovel
A good layout with lots of words Etc and Pictures
Pictures of Tim Wilson as headline
Headline - Tim Wilson Confirms That Election Ballot Paper Will Now Contain Option To Donate To Liberal Party
I think this is Factual

Daily Telegraph
A site with adds...and words and pictures like all the others...
Headline picture of a fallen police officer
Headline - WIFE PLACES POLICE TEDDY ON FALLEN OFFICER’S CASKET
I think this is Factual

(Thank for taking your time to read this... if you did)
(And like before some may not be right as in this was my opinion as in what was real or fake)
