In Social studies after we finished the Deity work, we moved onto the treaty if Waitangi were told to make a timeline of 5 things that happened before the treaty of Waitangi was signed.
(If anything is wrong in the timeline I'm sorry)

Zeus II Social Studies

Its the start of term 4 which means we have a new topic in Social Studies, in social studies for the topic of this term we started looking at deities/gods and where they're from. For this, we had the Maori deity and had to find out what their job or what they were known as. Once we found that out we had to find the Ancient Greek, Ancient Roman, and Hindu deity of that element that we found from the Maori deity.

After that, we had to pick a deity/god from the list we just made and make a poster about said deity/god
For this I picked Zeus.

I enjoyed doing this topic, in total this took 3 days, 2 days for the god finding because the first day we did it, it was a Wednesday and on Wednesday class hours are shorter, the next day was Thursday where I finished my god finding and picked one, that's where I began to put down my notes so I could then transport it to my poster, and today Friday I finished off the last part of my notes and made the poster.

Know your world II Social Studies

For the last week of school for term 3 in Social Studies, we've been working on a Prezi about our world.
For this Prezi, we were given a bunch of questions that we had to research to find information for this said Prezi. 

Make comments on what new information you gained from your research

I learned a few things from this small research project such as Christchurch was named after Christ church. I'd also learnt of Lyttleton's old name which was Port cooper before they decided to rename it Lyttelton.

What was the most interesting thing you found in your research?
The most interesting thing I learnt from this research was that if the British hadn't done the treaty of Waitangi in 1840 on February the 6th then the French would have Annexed New Zealand before the British.

What else do you think we should have added to the Prezi
Honestly, I'm not sure as I'd only finished so much and learning this much it's self was interesting for me. It was something nice to do on the last week of school.

Introduction (Intro)
During the 20th Century when World War 1 (1914 - 1918) and World War 2 (1939 - 1945) happened a
lot of the technology that we created and used had evolved over time. Some of the biggest changes
in technology were inventions made for war in the 20th Century. Some of these included Tanks,
Bombs, and Submarines. The side of technology that evolved during that time period which wasn’t war
based included. Television, (With Color) Microwaves, Spacecrafts and lastly Internet. Some of these
have changed to where they are no longer complicated looking and are  easier to understand and use
for our own benefit. Some of these objects have evolved over the time of our daily lives and changed
it for the best or for the worst.

Law
Most of the technological weapons that we use today started developing and improving themselves
in the 20th century during World War 1 & 2. Some of these weapons were Tanks, Submarines and guns.
Tanks were used by both sides of the war to shoot down enemies and buildings while also being
protected at the same time. Submarines were for underwater activities from out of eyesight, used to
strike down enemies on the sea from below them. Guns were used from behind the sandbags to
shoot across the field and shoot down incoming enemies. Most of these weapons are still used today
in the armies. One of them, the gun is used nowadays by not only the army but also the FBI and the
Police Force to help out and protect the citizens.

One of the most feared and said to be popular tanks in World War 2 was a tank made in 1942 by the
Germans. When a need for a new tank had become pressing when some of their men were trapped
in Stalingrad were in need of help.  The Panther tank  dealt devastating damage. One of Germany's top
Panther commanders was SS-Oberscharführer Ernst Barkmann. By the end of World war 2 he had
destroyed about 80 tanks with the Panther, truly showing how terrifying the tank itself is.

The USS Greyback, so called because it had a grey back, was used by the US in WW2. The Greyback was sunk during a bombing attack by  a Japanese naval bomber in February 1944 along with 80 of the crew who lived on the ship. Seventy-five years later on June 5th,  2019 the wreck of the submarine was rediscovered within Japan’s seas

While the war was going on other things that didn’t involve warfare were also created. Going from Cars,
TVs, and Microwaves, something that we all use in the 21st Century. The first Affordable car released
for purchase in the 20th Century which started its production in 1908 and was released for people in
America in 1927 was the Ford Model T made by the Ford Motor Company and went for the price of
$850. (Which is equivalent to $12,340.56 in 2020).
While in 1950 the Microwave or Microwave Oven was created by accident when a self-taught American
engineer by the name of Percy Spencer noticed that the Microwave he was creating was melting the
chocolate in his pocket from the Active Radar coming from the Microwave. Till this very day we still
use Microwaves but nowadays they're less complicated and easier to use and to understand.

Conclusion (Sum Up)
Most of the weapons we use today can be linked to weapons that were used in the past. Most of these weapons are still used in 2020 in the armies and now as well in the Police Force so they can protect the citizens.
Many of the things we have created in the 20th Century have improved to become better and stronger over time. People who create cars have started making electric cars so we don’t pollute the air anymore, and Tv’s are no longer small and now give us a more vivid and bigger view to look at. But even though so many things have changed and evolved over time these products till this very day are still evolving and improving for the better or worse for the future.

Over the years our phones have advanced to flip phones to touch screens and because of the touch screen phones teenagers are spending more and more time on their phone on social media instead of getting out and doing something with friends.

Why it matters(Evidence)
Because even though the phone may seem harmless there are many dangers that lie within the apps that you use on the phone, such as Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat and Tiktok. There are reasons I listed these. The reasons are that you are likely to post photos and videos of yourself on them and it's also likely you haven't protected your privacy on them meaning anyone can see what you post and some people on the internet can be really dangerous.

This also consists of the people you meet online, Because we don't have a rule on profile pictures where you can only use your face and not pictures on the internet. There's a high chance that the person you're talking to is not who they say they are. And once they've gained your trust they may ask you personal things or you may give them a password to something which isn't a smart move at all.

And of course, each of these things will have big impacts on your life that you may not like at all. Some of these things may happen at school, you might become an outcast or you'll get blackmailed by the people that have seen that Video/Picture it's also likely that bullying will also come into the picture.
In other cases, it might also involve the police if the person you've been talking to is blackmailing you and threatening you, and none of these is okay.

So even though phones help us a lot sometimes, they are also dangerous if we don't stop and think about what we're doing or who we're talking to.

Technology Advancement II Social Studies

Over the decades our technology has changed to the point where information moves quickly
around the world.

Why it matter
Because the person you may be sending the note to may be overseas and far away from you,
which isn’t good if the note is important, and if it’s important then it’s likely that what
you're trying to stop them from doing has already been done, or if you're sending them
a letter for a meeting it’s likely the meeting has already passed.

Evidence
We no longer need to send long-awaited envelopes oversea to reach its destination when nowadays
all we need to do is open up Gmail write something in and press send and it’s automatically
sent to the rightful person, another function is that you can also send pictures and videos from
youtube to them. There are also apps such as Skype where you can video call the people
close to you so you're always up to date on what they're doing.

Sum up
Our technology advancements have allowed us amazing things and they also help us keep up
to date on things so we're not missing out on important events or missing out on the monthly
video chat with your parents.

Social Studies II Forensic Science

In Social studies, we've been focusing on Careers.
For this, we had to do a quiz on Career NZ but the Quiz didn't work so we just used their site to find some jobs, for me I did Forensic Science, I got myself into Forensic science at year 8 when our science teacher introduced it to us, the thing I like about Forensic science is the problem solving and the just the science part in general, I really love Science and Problem solving because it gets me thinking.

Soo after we picked a job we had to make a poster for the selected job and answer a few questions and then make it into a poster (Question are on the poster)

Matariki II Social Studies II

Week 12, 1 more day till the end of the week and 1 more day till the end of the term, for the last past week we've been doing a presentation on Matariki and what Public Holiday we would replace it with.
This took us 2 weeks to complete, the first week was research week and the last week this week was the week that we started and finished our presentations, for our presentations we made posters.

I feel relatively happy with my poster, and I'm glad I feel that way as I'm pretty impressed in the final outcome.

What went well and why?
I feel this went well because, everything just went so smoothly, the research was easy and the final project was fun, I fully enjoyed making a poster and fully enjoyed this research topic even though it's a topic I've done plenty of times before.

What didn't go so well and why?
I honestly don't think anything went wrong because I had all the research in control and the poster making as well.

If you were to do this again what would you do differently and why?
If I even did this again, I for sure would make sure the poster was smaller, and instead of white for the main background, I'd pick black because I feel that black goes really well with blues and it'd bring out the night sky vibe/look.

Syria II Social Studies II Topic Research

Starting last week we started a research on countries which have been overridden by war. For this, I picked Syria as it seemed to stick out the most to me. Seeing as this took a whole 2 weeks I feel very proud of the final result.

What went well and why - I feel It went well because I found that using my own brainpower helped out a lot with this presentation and just going to a few sites helped out too. and I also had pretty much everything under control which made everything easy for me so no stress was put upon me.

What didn't go so well and why - Honestly I'm positive not much went wrong because I had everything under control. But I feel there was one thing that was tough to do. For our presentation, we were told to find a story of a refugee and what their travel was like. But it was hard to find videos about them as it only had videos about closing borders to refugees and some about opening borders.

If I were to do this again what would I do differently and why - If I do this again, I might pick a different country as doing Syria seemed really easy based on how much is happening in Syria right now, and I might as well find another way to make my presentation.

Migration II Social Studies

Since is were still in quarantine and the term has just recently started doesn't mean we can escape school work. which is where this comes in. Since it's the start of a new term, term 2 this means we have a new topic and for Social Studies is Migration

For this task, we had to make a PowToon or a MySimpleShow. For this, I picked Powtoon as it's what I'm most familiar with.
For this, we had to make a slideshow and talk about the push and pull factors of migration and why people move to a new place.

This took me 2 days to finish in total. And Honestly, I think I would have gotten it done faster if I was at school. But I'm proud of my work anyway.

YR10 Child Trafficking Research II Social Studies

A couple of days back In Social Studies we were given a research assignment, which we were given a slide to which we would pick what our research was about. The one I picked was Child Trafficking out of Child Labour and Child Soldiers. For this research we had to do the What, Who, When, Where, How and Why questions.

We also had to visit more than one site about the same topic because you can't just trust one site as one site may be out of date and the other site may be biased, so it was important for us to go to multiple sites to find our information.
It may have been a hassle but it helped me find out some interesting things that I didn't know that I could add to the slide above. But honestly the hard part was making it look pretty.

Hussian Khan had used Indentured Labour so he could gain more money for himself and make the money economically. He did this by buying children that were forced into beings slaves and forced them to do his work so the work could get done faster and he could gain money faster. Hussian Khan has used the children's vulnerableness to his advances and overworked them day and night from sunrise to sunset. This means the children had no breaks during the day and had worked all day at the loom making carpets.
Taking this to his advantage he left the children Dirty and Malnourished and gave them no chance to clean themselves up or bandage their wounds from the looms that they worked at each day to make carpets for him. Just for him to sell them and make the children work even harder so he could gain more money from the carpets the children made. He got away with this for a little bit more after the rule for banning child labour became a thing. As he told people that he treated the children as his family and in return for their hard work he paid them.
(And taking it apart and making it smalled) Hussian Khan had used Indentured Labour so he could gain more money for himself.
Hussian Khan did this by buying children that were forced into being slaves due to debt and forced them to do his work so the work could get done fast and he could gain money faster.

Hussian Khan was a horrible man who never cared about any of the children's well beings and took the vulnerability of the children to his advantage.

Hussian Used this to his advantage by starving the children so they would work harder so they could get food, he also didn’t allow them to clean and disinfect their wounds from the looms they worked at each day while leaving them dirty and malnourished from the lack of food and water.

Hussian Khan had no care for the children that slaved for him. The only thing he cared about was the money he made out of it, though after the ban on child slavery had become a true thing, he managed to keep them in his hold for a while longer saying the children were like family to him and that he paid them for their hard work.

Meaning that Hussain Khan had used indentured labour for his own sick dream of becoming wealthy while using the children's disadvantages to his advantages so he could gain more and more money.

Iqbal’s ability to have human rights were taken from him the day he was taken from his family and given to his first-ever master. Why this matters so much?
Human rights and the freedom it gives us are a valid part of our everyday lives.
Life for Iqbal wasn’t exactly perfect after he became a slave. Because as soon as he became one he had already gained his first master and lost all of his human rights that he had before becoming a slave. In the process of becoming a slave, he had lost the right to have education. He had also lost the right to have comfortable beds to sleep on and delicious foods to eat each night for dinner. And worst of all the right to see the people who gave birth to him and raised him.
Being a slave Iqbal had to work 10 hours a day doing the same thing each day, working at a loom and making carpets to his master's satisfaction.This is why human rights are the most important thing for a human to ever have and why Iqbal and all the other children going through the same thing as Iqbal should’ve of never had to have experienced such a horrible childhood at such a young age.

In social studies, we've started Human rights and so far we've gotten into the slavery side of human rights. The part were in right now is about the slaves and the spiritual songs that they sang. For this, we had to research a person who started the underground railroad and saved many slaves from their torture. and thus we were given the task to research "Harriet Tubman"

These songs make me feel disgusted in humanity, because of what were caple of doing to others with or without their consent. It makes me sad to know that humans do this to other humans because we deny seeing other people that are different from us as an equal person. and that they have to go through such things every day.

New year new Decade and a new start to Social studies. This year in social studies for a starting were learning about humans rights and what the rights are. On the 2nd week, we were asked to make a poster about human rights and some of its rights.

Term 4 Research assignment (Social studies)

CONCLUSION

I learnt that were horrible people because were killing trees to make buildings when we could use other materials. Were also horrible because those trees help us, they give us air that we can consume to being with.

I even learnt that our rainforests only cover 6% of our worlds surface. That's not a lot when you think about it, and when you stop and think about the recent fire disasters, that's just getting that 6% down to 5 or 4% leaving us soon with barely any trees left that could harbour us the air we need.

I also found out that most deforestation isn't caused by disasters but by humans ourselves because we use them to build buildings and to make a single piece of paper when we could find any other material to make buildings and we could also use scrapped paper to make new paper instead of cutting down more trees.

By learning this I also learnt that if we don't stop this and plant more trees then 100 years from now the new generation will have to suffer with the loss of trees and fresh air. Because we were too stubborn to plant trees.
There are so many things we could do to resolve this problem but we don't we just stick around and wait out as the years go by and our trees are slowly dying and getting cut down by people or fires.
