End Of Term Wananga post II Culture Kete

Over the last past few weeks, we've been doing a wananga topic on our culture, or if we don't know anything about our culture just basically anything that represents us and tell a story about us.
Over the week we had the time to do this I'd managed to come up with this, All in all, I'm really proud of it and couldn't have asked for anything better.

My Poster

Blue, Yellow, Red (Colors at the back of the triangle) - These colors represent the pansexual flag which also represents my sexuality.

Family - The boy on the left represents my brother who is a year 7 this year and the girl on the right you'll just have to imagine as a boy, that represents my little brother who is still in primary school, and the girl on the left is me, and the woman on the right is my mother. The question marks that are on the male represent the fact that a father is not present in my life, so my mother takes up the role of mother and father.

The Quote - This quote represents the fact that my older brother is half American and kiwi while the rest of my family is kiwi and half British. <- This is where the part of we stand together as one even through all our differences
The part where it says Hardships we face, This represents the fact a second parent was never present in our lives, and we've always had to rely on our Mother and Grandparents. And because of this, there have been lots of struggles that we've been through, especially since my mother is still looking for a job and has to do polytech again.

The moon and the arrow pointing to the heart with the word baby - This represents the fact that I was born during the middle of the night.

South Islands and Plane - I used to live in Nelson before moving to Christchurch. The star at the top is placed on Nelon on the South Islands and the arrow that is pointing down to the next star is placed on Christchurch. Next to that, I stuck a plane which is another way of saying that I flew to Christchurch instead of drove.

The icons above the people (Pencil = Drawing, Pie = Food, Zz = Sleep, Console = Gaming)
These icons represent the things I like, and the things I like to do. I like drawing as it brings me a sense of relief and pride. Relief to the fact that it calms me down, and pride to the fact that looking at my artwork now I've seen just how much I've improved in my drawing. I also love food, there isn't a time in my life where food isn't involved in my life. One of my favorite things to eat has to be Lasanga and those Pies from the shops. I also spend most of my time if I have nothing better to do sleeping. I find that sleeping even If I know I shouldn't sleep all the time is calming, and makes me feel better. (It also helps pass the time) And lastly the console, I love gaming and most of my friends already know that. One of my favourite game companys are Square Enix, who have made games that I love playing such as FFXVI, FFXV and the KINGDOM HEARTS Franchise, and my otheer favourite company is Game Freak who make pokemon. I had gotten the PS4 for the Kingdom Heart games and the FF games, and now have all the currently released Kingdom heart games that came out in the start of 2020. I also recently got the Nintendo Switch for my birthday. My first game on it was Pokemon Lets go pikachu and my second which I recently got on Easter Saturday was Pokemon Sword. These games have given me a lot of inspiration as well as a fandom with many fanstaic people in them to talk to.

English II Over the shoulder shot (OTS)

WALT - "Analyse how film aspects show meaning"

This marks my last DLO for the Film/Visual Language topic. I fairly enjoyed doing this one, I was kinda confused but I got the hang of what the OTS Shot meant later on when making this. I hope that In the future I'll be able to understand how the OTS Shot works more in the future.

English II Dutch Tilt

WALT -  "Analyse how film aspects show meaning"

This marks the third DLO I've done for the topic of Film/Visual Language, Honestly, I kinda enjoyed doing the dutch tilt because it's such an interesting shot to me. The fact that once you keep seeing this shot in movies, you'll always know if somethings going to happen and what's likely to happen.

English II Product Design

WALT - "Analyse how film aspects show meaning"

This marks the second DLO I've done for our topic on Film/Visual Language study this time for the second one I picked product design. doing this one made me realize how similar they are to just props.

Reflection II Wananga

About my book - The book I've read over the last past weeks is book 4 of the Alex Rider Graphic Novel series whilst waiting for Book 6 as I've read book 5.

Book 4 - Book 4 starts us off with Alex going on a vacation with one of his friends and their family. During their stay at the island where their vacation is at. The hotel sets on fire injuring Alex's friend's dad. Before the hotel set up in flames, Alex had seen an old enemy that he'd seen in book 1. this led him to investigate which lead him to find a number ringing it and hearing the name of a famous person and the voice of that person.

Alex then sets out to try and exposes the famous singer for trying to kill his friend's father.
Throughout the story, we find out that the friend's father was a journalist who was doing a topic on a famous person whose name is Cray.

Cray throughout the world is known as famous singers and the creator of a new console which has higher graphics than any other current console in their world.
After being picked to try out the console after Alex steals a ticket to sneak into a show that Cray was hosting, Alex sneaks into this big building where we get to see a conversation between a man and Cray. Cray was using the man for information in turn the man would get 2 million dollars for the information he gave Gray. During that part of the book, Cray tells the man his money is in a big class case which on a stall is a case that has his money. When the man opens the case he finds out that it's empty after he opens the case a window-like door closes his exit from exiting from the class case a second later 2 million quarters begin to pour down on the man likely killing him. As Cray kills anyone who gets in his way or has valuable information that he can not let people walk away knowing about.

This the part that I've just passed and I'm currently still continuing the book. So far I'm really enjoying the series and cant wait to read book 6.

DLO II English II Point-Of-View

WALT - "Analyse how film aspects show meaning"

In English, we recently finished doing creative wiring. And have now moved onto Film/Visual Language Study. For the start of this topic, we had to make a DLO on one of the film aspects we were given, for this I picked Point - Of - View.

Athletics Day II Friday Reflection Post

Last Thursday we had Athletic days. At our school and probably most of all the other schools too. our athletics is split into two groups Competitive and Social I was in Competitive, this was also my first time being in competitive as I've always done Social. The difference between the two is that Competitive starts athletic at the start of period 1 and goes all the way to the end of school while Social has two periods of class before coming out and doing athletics.

The Athletic options I picked for this year were

100m
200m
Shot-put
High-Jump
Long-Jump

Before athletics day if you picked PE as a subject for year 11 you'd do a pre athletic practice. Meaning we'd go out and practice certain events we were taking part in on athletics day. Just to get that bit better at the event. Which I found helped a lot on the actual day of the event.

I fairly enjoyed this year's Athletics. And shockingly enough doing competitive actually gave me the chance to talk to people I normally wouldn't talk to in my year group which was really nice.
The thing I wish I could've changed but I know I cant was the weather. I would have loved for Athletics day to be like last year where the weather was nice and sunny. But in the end, Athletics was still really good.

Wananga II Reflection Post (Aka Reflection Day)

( About my week )
Wananga this week was okay. I don't remember much from Monday and Tuesday nor Wednesday but I remember Thursday and today. Yesterday we had 3 people come in and talk to our whole house (Tiekie) and give us a rundown of things. The first person who came in was one of our librarians, she talked about how the system for getting books outworked and that if needed we could come to them to possibly get new books out for the school. The next person that came in was a teacher of our school who worked for the juniour student council. She talked about some of the opportunities that we could partake in within the school.
And the last person was a lady who worked with many other kids on cyber safety and how to use their blog and gain viewers for their blog.

( About my book )
But apart from that we also did some silent reading. For the last past 2 weeks, I've been reading the graphic novel Alex Rider. Which is about a boy who was on a mission to find out more about his father, while trying to find out information about his father he encounters Scorpia a group his father was in, there he learned that his father was an assassin and that his father was shot from the enemy group of Scorpia, which Alex had soon got involved in after being assigned to kill one of their people and being tricked with bulletproof glass. Only realizing there was glass thereafter he'd fired the gun to take the target down. After he got caught he got stuck into another problem which involved a vaccine that could kill people with the press of a button.

this is what I've managed to get up to so far within the book, but I'm really enjoying the book and its plot, and after I finish the book I'm currently reading on it, I might also read the next one after that. (I left out a few things within the book so some spoilers are left out in case people wish to read Alex Rider)

Book - Scorpia: The Graphic Novel
Novel by Anthony Horowitz and Antony Johnston

Unwind II Connection Task II English

If you think the idea of anonymously giving away your baby is only real in science-fiction, you're wrong. Click on the link below to read about 'Baby Hatches' that are currently in use  in Europe (Predominantly in Germany) https://www.bbc.com/news/magazine-18585020

(Connection Task - Make a connection between this article and Unwinds Storking)

What is storking and what relation does it have to the article above? - In this article, it talks about how in Europe Mother or Possibly fathers are dropping their newborn baby's into a stainless steel hatch with a handle, inside are folded blankets for the baby, and a letter for parents who decided to change their mind and want the baby back and then just walking away leaving it behind, or mothers who secretly leave the baby in the hospital.
In Unwind there is a similarity to this... In Unwind dropping a baby off and leaving it is called Storking in Unwind, In Unwind you can't kill a child till it turns 13 so parents take to storking the child, so they have fewer responsibilities on their shoulder and that they have a second chance as they call it. To Stork, a child a Mother or Father would go to a neighbourhood and find a house and drop the baby off at the doorstep and run away. The people that are mostly targeted by storking are the rich people, the one's that have the money for the baby. However, if a parent is storking a baby and they get caught, they won't be left to run away, they'll be caught and told to take the baby back. However, if the family that got the baby on their doorstep doesn't want it, they can take it to a sate home which is basically an orphanage and a lifetime home.

In an state home the children will live there and help out the other children, once a child, of course, reaches 13 their ability to be unwound is available, but only if the state home feels that that child has reached their peak and has nothing left to improve, this is also done in state homes to give more room to new children who would come to the state home.

KorfBall II PE

Did you like Korfball?

I fairly enjoyed korfball, it, in my opinion, was fairly easy to understand and play so I didn't have any problems with it

Do you think you worked well with your teammates during Korfball

Did I work well with my team? I think I did well helping them out during the game, even if I didn't have to do much because most of the time the ball always reached the same people and the time I would get the ball and help out was when the ball came my way and no one in my team managed to reach it, but I'm pretty pleased with my helping during the game.

What could be better

I feel as though the teams could be a bit fairer as sometimes there's a team which just has a much larger advantage than the other team and it's pretty hard to play a game if the other team is always winning becuase of their high experince advantage.

Maths update II Maths II Flexagon

3 more weeks till the end of term 1, so much has been going on for me. I have an assignment in DTE on creating a animation and so much more to do in Science and English.
Science with its end of test topic review and English with keeping my work up to date.

But I guess having Math on a Friday is not bad if we get to do fun things like this all the time.
In Maths instead of doing actual math work we had some fun and made Flexagons.
With this, we were given a paper with a design on it, and instructions on another piece of paper on how to create the Flexagon.
But even with the instruction, everything was still so confusing???

That I had to get some help... It was worth it in the end because I managed to get them both done with a little bit of help from the teachers.

YR10 Child Trafficking Research II Social Studies

A couple of days back In Social Studies we were given a research assignment, which we were given a slide to which we would pick what our research was about. The one I picked was Child Trafficking out of Child Labour and Child Soldiers. For this research we had to do the What, Who, When, Where, How and Why questions.

We also had to visit more than one site about the same topic because you can't just trust one site as one site may be out of date and the other site may be biased, so it was important for us to go to multiple sites to find our information.
It may have been a hassle but it helped me find out some interesting things that I didn't know that I could add to the slide above. But honestly the hard part was making it look pretty.

Why research is important

The Hunter Swoop II English

Top Left Corner - A Cold cloudly morning with frozen musky clouds lurking in the sky.
Top Right Corner - A single patch of sun glimmering over the frosty mountain tops.
Bottom Left Corner - A cold frozen morning with the silence of yesterdays snowstorm still appears very visible
Center -  The road ahead of me laid cold and lonely as the path ahead of me sought a new finalized destiny for me.

Top Left Corner - I saw a figure, he had been standing behind a dusky patch of trees watching me.
Top Right Corner - I could hear the sound of birds nearby me to my right, they sounded in panic
Bottom Left Corner -  I looked to my legs as I watched the water slowly rise up and past my legs, I was so close but so far.
Center - I could feel it, I could feel the open clear path ahead of me laugh at me as I slowly sank to my death.

- In the ER removing a conjoined twin
- Conjoined twins face is left behind as a souvenir
- remembering moments of childhood with conjoined twin with their pet dog rusty.

When the door slammed shut as the nurse left and I had just awoken it was the moment I had come to terms with the fact that I had a full body of my own and no one next to me to prester me about everything I do and say. This felt amazing, absolutely amazing. While I indeed did no longer have a sibling to bug me every day and sit by my side like it used to be, at least I still had our pet dog Rusty by my side.

Why Hussian Khan used Indentured labour II Social Studies

Why Hussian Khan used  indentured labour?

(Draft)
Hussian Khan had used Indentured Labour so he could gain more money for himself and make the money economically. He did this by buying children that were forced into beings slaves and forced them to do his work so the work could get done faster and he could gain money faster. Hussian Khan has used the children's vulnerableness to his advances and overworked them day and night from sunrise to sunset. This means the children had no breaks during the day and had worked all day at the loom making carpets.
Taking this to his advantage he left the children Dirty and Malnourished and gave them no chance to clean themselves up or bandage their wounds from the looms that they worked at each day to make carpets for him. Just for him to sell them and make the children work even harder so he could gain more money from the carpets the children made. He got away with this for a little bit more after the rule for banning child labour became a thing. As he told people that he treated the children as his family and in return for their hard work he paid them.
(And taking it apart and making it smalled) Hussian Khan had used Indentured Labour so he could gain more money for himself.
Hussian Khan did this by buying children that were forced into being slaves due to debt and forced them to do his work so the work could get done fast and he could gain money faster.

Hussian Khan was a horrible man who never cared about any of the children's well beings and took the vulnerability of the children to his advantage.

Hussian Used this to his advantage by starving the children so they would work harder so they could get food, he also didn’t allow them to clean and disinfect their wounds from the looms they worked at each day while leaving them dirty and malnourished from the lack of food and water.

Hussian Khan had no care for the children that slaved for him. The only thing he cared about was the money he made out of it, though after the ban on child slavery had become a true thing, he managed to keep them in his hold for a while longer saying the children were like family to him and that he paid them for their hard work.

Meaning that Hussain Khan had used indentured labour for his own sick dream of becoming wealthy while using the children's disadvantages to his advantages so he could gain more and more money.

Athletics day II 2020 II Sports

Last week Thursday we had Athletics. The one day in life where sport only mattered and the only day where you can manage to lose your teacher and have a reason for losing them and not think up a random excuse as to why you couldn't find them.

Being me I'm not one entirely for sports as I no longer have the stamina and strength that I used to have when in Primary.
But I still overall enjoyed this year Athletics. and If I could I'd make every fortnight Thursday Athletics day.

What I liked about Athletics?
Well, I overall enjoyed everything about Thursday because it was nice and sunny and there were fun events to go through with, meaning that there wasn't a single moment on Thursday that I was bored, I enjoyed the events I had. I first had Long jump and I feel I did great on that. then we had sprints but I missed that because I couldn't find the spot I was meant to be at or the teacher I was with. and Lastly, I had discs. Not one for discs but I still enjoyed it.

Did I improve?
The only thing I feel that I really improved in was Long jump. Not really Discs as I still find it hard to hold the disc right without it falling from my hand, and sprints I don't know if I have or haven't as I missed sprints.

Pre-Test Scores
High Jump <90
Disc 3m
Long jump 3m
Shotput 3m

The thing I didn't really enjoy about Athletics is getting sunburnt on my knees and face and then realizing the week later we would be having our photos taken.

The lawyer paragraph - How Iqbal lost his humans rights and what he lost II Social Studies

Iqbal’s ability to have human rights were taken from him the day he was taken from his family and given to his first-ever master. Why this matters so much?
Human rights and the freedom it gives us are a valid part of our everyday lives.
Life for Iqbal wasn’t exactly perfect after he became a slave. Because as soon as he became one he had already gained his first master and lost all of his human rights that he had before becoming a slave. In the process of becoming a slave, he had lost the right to have education. He had also lost the right to have comfortable beds to sleep on and delicious foods to eat each night for dinner. And worst of all the right to see the people who gave birth to him and raised him.
Being a slave Iqbal had to work 10 hours a day doing the same thing each day, working at a loom and making carpets to his master's satisfaction. This is why human rights are the most important thing for a human to ever have and why Iqbal and all the other children going through the same thing as Iqbal should’ve of never had to have experienced such a horrible childhood at such a young age.
