Know your world II Social Studies

For the last week of school for term 3 in Social Studies, we've been working on a Prezi about our world.
For this Prezi, we were given a bunch of questions that we had to research to find information for this said Prezi. 

Make comments on what new information you gained from your research

I learned a few things from this small research project such as Christchurch was named after Christ church. I'd also learnt of Lyttleton's old name which was Port cooper before they decided to rename it Lyttelton.

What was the most interesting thing you found in your research?
The most interesting thing I learnt from this research was that if the British hadn't done the treaty of Waitangi in 1840 on February the 6th then the French would have Annexed New Zealand before the British.

What else do you think we should have added to the Prezi
Honestly, I'm not sure as I'd only finished so much and learning this much it's self was interesting for me. It was something nice to do on the last week of school.

Theme Guide II English II Film Study

In English, we've been doing a few workshops about themes, costumes, angles and lighting. There are twp groups each group takes a turn, but when one group is up for workshop the other is doing independent work. This is my independent work. I feel proud of this knowing we had limited time to get it done.

Warm Lights - Orange, yellow, red tinge, Feelings - Cosy, Warm, Welcome

Cold Lights - Blue, Green, White, Feelings - Grey, Clean, Sterile

Bright light - Obvious, Feeling happy, Energetic

Effect on the viewer - Modern, Sets the mood- Excited for the tributes

Directors Purpose - Rich v Poor- Power, privilege, & Opportunity - They have access to technology - Trains, the station, better sewing technology because the costumes are better. Not Poverty in Capitol - They don't have to work, Privilege of being able to go and watch the tributes arrive

In the scene at the train station, lighting and colour are used substantially to show the theme of 'rich vs poor' in this case, rich means the privileges given to those in the Capitol. This is demonstrated through the use of bright, cold, artificial lighting and a modern colour palette of whites and greys for the buildings and vibrant pinks and blues for the clothing This makes the audience feel like the location is modern and the citizens are excited for the tributes to arrive. The purpose of this was to show that the Capitol has the privilege of technology - They have electricity, trains and access to better clothing. This worked well with the use of costumes. The costumes of the Capitol are unique, exquisite and exotic which shows they have more variety and sewing technology than those of people in the district. This can be juxtaposed to the conditions in District 12 where there is no electrify and the colours and lighting are more natural.

Reflection II Art

 For the last past 2 - 3 weeks, we've been working on stencilling in Art. Our first step was to find a shape anyway, and draw it down and then cut it out to make our stencil. we then had to paint on our stencil and make it pop.
For this, I used two symbols from one of the games I play.
One was based on the class White Mage, which is a class which bases its self on healing.
The other one I used was a tank Symbol, this class is called Gunbreaked and of course it mainly about attacking.

I picked the White Mage symbol because It's the class I play
And I picked the Gunbreaker symbol because one of the characters who follow you in your journey is a Gunbreaker.

The one on the left is Called GunBreaker, and the one on the right is called White Mage. These symbols are symbols of a class from a game called FFXIV Gunbreaker is a tank while White Mage is a healer.	Does your colour set a mood or structure the picture space? Not really using colour (Used Black and Whites)	What is the chief interest of your painting? The stencil shape? The negative space? The Stencil’s themselves as I know the meaning around them.	Does your stencil express any values or ideas?  My symbols represent a class, The round symbol with the circle in the middle is the healing class White mage. While the symbol that seems mirrored is the tank class GunBreaker.

No colours used	Stencils are quite flat. Have you used overlap to create space? No I didn’t. overlap	Is the meaning of your stencil changed by the way you paint it?  repeating the stencil shape? Nope
Have combined your stencil with other imagery? For e.g., used it in a landscape? No, but I’ve added texture to the ground and my image.	Does your painting use a variety of applications of paint? Have you used Impasto or flat painting? A wash, stippling or drybrush?  Used stippling with a brush to give the work texture.	Tone and Colour contrast create space. Do your colours react against each other? Move forward or backwards in space? Not really because I only used the shades of Black and White.	How does repeating a stencil symbol change its meaning? Does it have more emphasis or less?  Didn’t repeat or overlap
Does your subject matter change? Is the painting more about the colour, form, texture, and space than the stencil subject matter? Still about the stencil	What kind of texture does your painting have? Were you able to control this effect? A rough kind of texture. Yes I was able to, before I did my final work, I did a single piece of only the Gun Breaker symbol with the same texture in the background to see the results.	Does the repeated placement of your stencil create any focal points or leading lines? Nope	How does the colour used change the meaning of the stencil? For e.g.,if a Batman symbol is painted in pink colour?  The original Symbols are all in black, I just changed it to white but it still gives off the same reasoning

In the reaping scene, Costumes are used effectively to show the theme of Rich v Poor.

We see this when the people of District 12 are waiting for someone to be chosen to represent their District. The lifestyle of District 12 is reflected in the clothes that they wear. These clothes are made of a limited material, they are dull and boring. This makes us understand that costumes represent the theme rich v poor, in the capitol and the Districts. There is a difference between the opportunity, power and privilege between District 12 and the Capitol. The director did this to make the audience understand how costumes can symbolise the inequality between the Capitol and the Districts. This symbolisms combined with a wide shot of the crowd in District 12 and an over the shoulder shot of Effie reveal the lack of opportunity in district 12 and the power of the capitol. This aspect can be contrasted to the character of Effie, she wears a bright pink outfit that has a lot of design behind it revealing the opportunities given to characters in the Capitol.

Reflection For Last Weeks PE II PE

Last week in PE the spots we had a play with was Netball, football and basketball.
I mainly focused on Netball as I had an understanding of the game because I played it back in primary school for winter sports.

I feel for teamwork in Netball was good, I was involved with everyone else and managed to have fun in Netball as when I was young and played it, it wasn't that fun because people were either taller than you or no one passed to you.
But I feel I did well in it.

I put myself in Level 4
because
I always have my PE gear and I'm always trying to get involved with others. and I'm making sure I'm always on task with my work.
